7. the stockings were hung by -sorta nearby per se'- the chimney with care. in hopes that santa mommy would soon be there.
so here's the story, we do BIG stockings every year. this is a wonderful tradition that my family passed on to me and i am more than happy to elaborate it onto my own little family. the stockings are hung until christmas eve. then they are carefully placed on the couch or appropriate chair to be stuffed overflowing-ly full by christmas morning. the best part? i get to do my own stocking every year. i've had questionable looks from friends when i tell them this, but really? i always get little goodies that i know i'm going to love. it's really doing the hubby a favor...cause when is he really going to have the time to go shopping for stocking stuffers? and there's an element of surprise in it for him. this year, i could not find a matching stocking for ms. miley. last year while she was still cooking, i had a mini 'baby's first christmas' pink stocking and wanted to find her family one this year. so how did i solve this dilemma? i went out and found four new stockings. problem solved. and they even have cute little snowmen on them.
every year in the family room stockings, you can expect to find a new movie, beef jerky, a favorite drink (or gift card to umm...starbucks?), pj's, socks, toothbrush/toothpaste, candy book, ornament, gadgets and widgets, little toys, a book, new pens, and oodles of other goodies (like chocolate covered cherries for muah? yes, i do believe so). growing up, we could never run into the room without first gathering as a family and singing 'happy birthday' to Jesus. and you better believe we still do this. *smiles. my dad would always tease us that he first had to go brush his teeth. and shave. and read the paper. and change. a joke that never seemed to get old. i think i remember him pulling this one on us last year?
so do you buy your own starbucks gift card;)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately we've never been into stockings-I guess it's not too late to start that tradition though-I really like the idea that I could buy my own stocking stuffers!
When we were little we had ceramic boots that my g-ma made.
