it's definitely a soup kind of day. or a soup season, is more like it. as i sip and slurp down some pot roast and vegetable soup for lunch, i am flashed back to the sunday afternoon visits to great grandma's house after church. it was the same soup. the same warm and cozy feeling that brought me back to this place. her tiny kitchen filled with so many memories. i vaguely remember great grandpa, as i was so young while he was alive. honestly, the best memory i have of him was his living room chair with him plopped in it. foot rest popped up. he would sit. quietly. i don't remember him getting up...the picture is clear in my mind of him sitting. i'm perfectly sure he was an up-and-about kind of guy, my memory is just too young to recall.
the smells are too familiar. the retro metal-legged table. the vintage bowls we would slurp from. i remember there, learning how to properly eat soup. like an english maiden. i felt so proper. so grown up. gently dip your spoon sideways, gracefully drawing it up the side of your bowl. the middle is where the soup is the hottest. so be careful.
the taste brings me back to her ivy covered cottage-like house. sweet little grandma always ready to serve with a smile. she was a lovely lady. she gave me memories of family that i will remember forever.
