best response.

first, a little background,

about two weeks ago, i took the girls to a thrift store and we were flipping through the books, business as usual. jess came across an ariel book that she couldn't live without. at a whopping $.25, i couldn't blame her. unfortunately, her excitement in other books got the best of her and the ariel book was left behind. on the drive home from the backseat, she proclaimed with her dying breath, "where's myyy ariel boook?!" with broken sobs, i tried my best to console her and help her understand that it is just a book and that she has many other ariel books at home. yes, this is true. many, many ariel books. and every other princess you can think of. she stumbled through her words but mustered out a weak, "ooo-kaa-y." i ended up having to go back to the same store the same day and told her we would quickly look for it. sadly, it was gone. she did okay the second time around as i had prepared her for the worst. she understood that another little girl found it and was enjoying the happiness that only ariel can bring. surprisingly, she was okay with this. i told her that we would keep our eyes peeled at other stores for a different ariel book. this made her happy.

and this brings me to today. i was actually directed by the hubs to look for some work pants for him at my local thrift store(s). what? he's asking me to go to the thrift store? is he feeling okay? does he understand what task he is making me do? reluctantly, i pulled myself together. if i haaad to. i guess i could find time in my day to go. okay, back to reality. i was more than thrilled to oblige. of course, i had to peruse the bookcases for new finds, since i was there. jess stayed behind to play with myah, so it was just miley and me today. if you haven't figured out where this is going...yes, i did indeed find a new ariel book. and not just one, but TWO. holy moses! another ariel book for the collection. two. not one. two. the best part is her response when i told her the great news. it was music to her ears. as i entered myah's house upon my return home, jess was looking at a different book when i asked her this,

me: "jess, guess what i found at the thrift store?"
jess: "ahhh!" (having no clue what i'm talking about)
me: "i found a new ariel book."
jess: little miss throws her hand on her hip in proclamation and spouts out, "yooou. are. kidding.!" (continuing with girlish happy squeals)
me: "umm...no, i'm not kidding. i am serious." (just a tad thrown off with her grown-up response)

jessa proceeds to drop the book smack dab on the floor at her feet and proclaims that she has to see it immediately. after obediantly picking up her mess and saying her proper thank you's to myah and mr. jesse, she runs out the door on her treasure hunt. ariel was quickly retrieved and swooned over. i have one happy, happy little girl. have i mentioned how much i love thrift stores? they bring unknown happiness to this little family. at least, the girls in this family. *she winks.
