learning from disappointment

oh today...what a day. my mind is reeling with 'whys'. why did it actually have to rain? why did it have to rain so hard? it took two and a half hours to set up for the {ginormous} yard sale this morning...my morning that started at 4:30am. not to count the endless time it took this past week to get ready for it. careful detail. that's what i get for making cute tags just for a yard sale. as they all got drenched. bled straight through. ruined for next time. oh well.

we honestly thought it was going to be an okay day once we were setting up. it was chilly, but it was only 5 in the morning. the breeze was blowing the clouds by very quickly and that 30% chance of rain was looking promising after all. well...

not two hours into the sales, by about 9am, it started drizzling. jacob kept asking, "should we start putting things in boxes?" i just wanted to keep holding out. i couldn't believe water was actually falling from the skies. really? then...

it kinda started coming down harder. clouds in the distance looking the same as they gloom overhead. and so the frantic packing started. we mostly wanted to get the tables cleared off and dried to prevent damage. they were okay. all of our stuff had mini ponds on them, but what's a little water? there was no time to dry before boxing it up. it would just get wet again anyway as the box stayed open for packing. our neighbor friend came over to help jacob carry heavy furniture quickly into the garage. it was funny how people would still drive by very slowly checking things out as we were running around like crazies. a few even stopping and browsing for a bit.

so it took two and a half hours to set up and about an hour to tear down. with about two hours of sale time. half of it in a light drizzle of rain.

it would be completely easy to dwell on the negatives of the day. and there are many to consider. i got pretty angry inside as we were throwing everything in boxes soaking wet. but then it passed and i was reminded that it just wasn't the right day to do it and there was nothing i could do about it. so i choose to focus now on the positive possibilities. like...

it will give me time to maybe find more to sell. the next time will be more profitable. with lots of sunshine! :) my mama might be able to be here. a friend wants to sell some of her stuff at ours next time...providing more help and lots more fun. and at least everything is already priced and ready, for the most part...i might just have to do a few touch-ups to the water damaged tags.

all and all, as i sit here and reflect on the day that will soon be over, i realize how tired i am. however, it did give us a chance to all take a nap in the afternoon. and get some packing done. my poor husband. he worked so hard to make things better than the situation provided. he's a good man and a very hard worker. thanks hunny! what a day!

i am so ready for this vacation.
