give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. -matthew 5:42
my sweet girl, jessa marie, has been practicing this to perfection. considering i'm not the best at displaying this very important beatitude, she has been a constant example as she generously hands over her *favorite* {not just the things that get thrown under the bed - that would be too easy, as we all know} possessions to her new friends. without hesitation, she declares her abiding friendship as she unselfishly shares.
"i want you to have this for a long, long, long, long time because i love you and you're my friend. i want you to borrow this..."
she gives books. princess wands. her giant stuffed giraffe. her polly car. puzzles. movies. play phones.
my stingy mommy spirit likes to act like it cares {what if it gets broken? lost? imperfect in some way?}, but slowly, i am adapting to her generous behavior. i've been learning a very important lesson that my heart always knew as true; people are way, way more important than things. it's putting that into action and genuinely handing over my belongings that shows what i know from my heart.
jessa girl,
you've been a little light to mommy's spirit. you know how to shine. and shine well. thank you for displaying a virtue that we all need a little work on. thank you for reminding me to show people that they are more important to me than my things. thank you for demonstrating that very lesson. you are a sweet girl and i appreciate that i can learn from you. thank you for your big, squishy heart for your friends. most importantly, thank you for giving before they even have to ask. even in your little life, you are letting Jesus epitomize the Word of God in an awesome way. keep shinin' baby!
Lord,
thank you for doing a mighty work in her life. please keep her heart capable for your glory. please remind me to be the example she needs to look up to, but also, thank you that i am able to learn from her.
is there anything in your life that you struggle letting go of? giving away? borrowing with the possibility of not getting it back?
or is it just me...? *wink
What a beautiful girl you have, Beth... your humility and teachability open you to the lessons God has for you, it could be so easy to miss or trample the purity of the moment, but you caught it.
ReplyDeleteI have a pathetic collection of "mine's" that should be another's blessing. Beth, maybe we should send each other gifts... ;)
one of my favorite things about my kids is how much they teach me!
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet tender-hearted girl you have. a blessing for sure!
