was i the only one that thought this weekend whizzed by, leaving a blur of light as evidence of it even being here?
it was a very enjoyable few days with family, friends, and only a little money spent. impressive, i know. after posting about my battle with materialism, i went out and bought an adorable, brown nine west purse at a discount price. discount or not, i still naughtily bought it. BUT, after reminding myself of my own accountability and feeling a little guilty {but oh-so happy at the same time}, i returned it the next day {"go me!", she adds as her own cheerleader}. and from then on, i sorta have been on this no-buy spree. i mean, granted, i did find a little somethin'-somethin' at the farm chicks show because how could i not? all i can say is, WOW! it was the most fabulous artsy-type of show i've been too. antiques, chairs, shabby-chic gloriousness, everything metal and lovely, signage, baskets, stools, shutters, handmade goodness, purses, aprons...and the beautiful farm chicks themselves {click on their blog in my sidebar to see some great pictures from the show}! it was like being in a toy land for decor-freaks...which i will totally be glad to admit that's me!
i was able to hit it up twice, actually. the first time, saturday morning, i went with jenessa (from notes from ness), angie (from weaver wonders), and heidi (from pieces of me). we spent {only} two and a half hours that morning when i could have easily stayed all day. which is exactly why i grabbed a bracelet on my way out for free admission the next day...with full hopes of returning. grandma watched the girls saturday {thank you!!}, i heard it would be impossible to bring children, let alone a stroller to zip them around in. whoever shared that knowledgeable golden advice with me was brilliant because yeeeah...no way would the girls have survived. they probably would have been sold among the pink frillies of some of the booths. the second time i shopped the show was sunday with my sister-in-law. she was in town with my brother who was playing in a golf tourney with my hubby. always a good reason to catch up on girlie fun. we did have the kids with us that afternoon...and even though always slightly a struggle, we managed as it was not nearly as busy as saturday.
the only things i bought were things that i knew i would replace once i got home. buy one thing, get rid of something else. a motto i try my best to strongly stick to. i found a gem in an adorable, pink, vintage wood chair for the girls. jessa calls it her princess chair. this new chair will replace a little black one she used to sit at the coffee table. i actually think i previously blogged about the black one last year after finding it at a thrift store. but, it's time to say so-long to it...i have a motto to stick to. yesterday, i picked up another vintage find in a yellow stool. our other bathroom stepping stool broke awhile back and will now find itself in the donation {or garbage} pile.
i was just so thrilled to be able to make a show before the big move. i've been wanting to go for years and now that it was local, i couldn't find a reason not to go. the rest of the weekend involved the mall {always fun}, krispy kreme {always delicious}, starbucks {i know, i know}, homemade steak-shrimp stir fry {spicy & yummy - if i do say so myself *wink}, a little packing {success!}, more donating {purging is good}, selling at the consignment shop {whoo-hoo!}, laundry {always feels good}, and some movie watching {it was a thumbs up}, which also involves popcorn, twizzlers, sour patch kids and peanut butter m&m's {it just has to}.
and guess what? you're not going to believe this because i still don't, but the hubby is currently out fixing the car...AGAIN!! i was out this morning, in the rain, taking things to the consignment shop {i'm not kidding when i say we're getting rid of A LOT}, when the windshield wipers quite working. quickly, i was blinded by the pouring, ginormous drops disturbing my view. i pulled off at the nearest location and dialed my 9-1-1...which is the hubby, of course. thankfully, i wasn't far and he told me i would just have to come back and he would try and fix it. hoping i'd soon be on my way again, he did his magic and i was out the door 20 minutes later with this warning, "it's fixed for now. it should hold for awhile, but it might do it again." awesome.
sure enough, after the first stop, the spastic wipers malfunctioned again. i pulled into the nearest parking lot and called the hubby. deja vu anyone? this time, i was a lot farther from home and not looking forward to the 15 minute drive back. just picture it...crazy woman getting out at every stop light to hand operate her windshield wipers to have any sort of visibility to drive. i was thiiis close to just driving it straight off a cliff. my common sense got the best of me and a little prayer got me home. and once again, for the third monday in a row, the car has successfully ruined the day.
here's to happier thoughts to the beginning of this week!
