canterbury cathedral - one of my favorites from the entire trip
'canterbury has the most charming streets and markets...exactly what i would picture an old english town to capture within its historical venue. historical meets modern because we also enjoyed a lovely starbucks mid-afternoon. canterbury also houses the second largest cathedral {in the world} by some 8 inches. this place was beyond magnificent! i tried my best to capture the breathtaking gardens, the intricate care of the stones, arches and doorways...and how each detail seemed to whisper from its ancient time. it was incredible to walk the same holy path as so many before. kings. queens. archbishops. martyrs. it was absolutely amazing. it truly was emotionally overwhelming to be experiencing such a tremendous place of worship. a place of quiet, unspoken peace. another holy place. it is something i needed to experience in person to get the true magnitude of its structure and atmosphere. i feel honored and blessed to have walked its path.' -journey journal 5.2.09

ReplyDeletehey sarah...yes, it most definitely is a statue. this might have been the one without a name plate, but most of the above ground tombs like this are of archbishops. so i'm guessing he is one of the many found in canterbury's cathedral.
